    Wallace Invitational for Scholarships in Engineering

    The Wallace Invitational for Scholarships in Engineering (WISE) is a competition held each fall for eligible high school seniors interested in studying engineering or computing at Wichita State. Ten $28,500 Wallace Scholars will be awarded to the winners of the 2023 Wallace Invitational. These students receive the prestigious designation as a Wallace Scholar. The Wallace Scholarship is made possible by the generosity of the late Dwane and Velma Wallace.

    To be eligible to compete, you must:

    1. Be a 2024 high school graduate
    2. Submit Wichita State admission application materials. You must declare a College of Engineering major in the "Academic Interest" section of your admission application. View a list of College of Engineering majors here
    3. Meet ONE of the following criteria:
      • Have a minimum unweighted 3.5 GPA, or
      • Have a minimum ACT composite score of 27, or
      • Have a minimum SAT composite of 1280, or
      • Rank in the top 10 percent of your class at the end of your junior year

    WISE Application Deadline: Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023 by 11:59 p.m. CST

    Competition: Friday, Nov. 17, 2023

    All students who meet the eligibility criteria above and submit the WISE application are accepted to the competition. Students must be physically present on-campus for the competition on Nov. 17 to be considered for the Wallace Scholarship. For additional information about WISE, visit wichita.edu/wise

    Ready to start completing your application? Follow these tips!

    1) Start by reviewing the following essay questions. Each essay question has a limit of 150 words.
    • Essay Question #1 - Tell us about a person in your life or an experience you had that inspired your interest in engineering or computing. 
    • Essay Question #2 - What interests you about the College of Engineering at Wichita State? 
    • Essay Question #3 - What impact do you hope to make with a degree/career in engineering or computing? 
    2) Create your activities chart. Scroll to the bottom of the application to read more information about the activities chart. 
    3) Have someone proofread your essay responses and activities chart.
    4) Come back to your application when you're ready to enter the essays and upload the activities chart. 
    5) Complete the contact information and WISE event information. Enter your essays and upload your activities chart. Hit submit!
